What this medicine is for



This medicine contains an antibiotic and a local anaesthetic which act to fight infection and numb pain. It can be used to relieve sore throats.





Before you take this medicine




Do not take:



  • If you are allergic to any of the ingredients

  • If you are allergic to other local anaesthetics

  • If you have an intolerance to some sugars, unless your doctor tells you to (this medicine contains sucrose)

  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding




Talk to your pharmacist or doctor:



  • If you suffer from myasthenia gravis – a disease of the immune system which causes muscle weakness and tiredness

  • If you have low levels of an enzyme called cholinesterase in your blood

  • If you take other medicines – sulphonamide antibiotics (e.g. sulphadiazine), anticholinesterases (e.g. neostigmine)




Information about some of the ingredients:



Each lozenge contains 961 mg of sucrose. This should be taken into account if you suffer from diabetes.






How to take this medicine



Check the foil is not broken before use. If it is, do not take that lozenge.






Adults and children of 12 years and over


Take one lozenge when you need to.
Don't take more than 8 lozenges in any 24 hours.




Suck each lozenge slowly until it dissolves.



Do not give to children under 12 years.



Warning: Do not exceed the stated dose.



If symptoms do not go away talk to your doctor.



If you take too many lozenges: Talk to a doctor straight away. Take your medicine with you.





Possible side effects



Most people will not have problems, but some may get some.



If you get any of these serious side effects, stop taking the lozenges.




See a doctor at once:



  • Difficulty in breathing, swelling of the face, neck, tongue or throat (severe allergic reactions)

  • Very rarely a blood reaction that can cause blue lips



These other effects are less serious.




If they bother you talk to a pharmacist:



  • Sore tongue



If any side effect becomes severe, or you notice any side effect not listed here, please tell your pharmacist or doctor.





How to store this medicine



Do not store above 25°C.



Keep all medicines out of the sight and reach of children.



Use by the date on the end flap of the carton.





Active ingredients



Each lozenge contains Benzocaine 5 mg, Tyrothricin 1 mg (equivalent to 230 iu Gramicidin).



Also contains: sucrose, acacia, magnesium stearate, sodium chloride, star anise oil, carmine extract, clove oil.
